BBB: Karl Heinz of BBB’s view: On January 21-23rd, BBB made very clear that Berlin has achieved the status of being one of the world’s fashion cities! With BREAD & BUTTER BERLIN’s success the German capital is internationally perceived as the center of young, progressive fashion and lifestyle culture. The three days of show were accompanied by the exhibitor’s and visitor’s optimism and enthusiasm. Despite the increase in numbers, the quality level of visitors has been raised remarkably. This was also confirmed by the majority of BBB exhibitors.

Besides the editors of relevant, international trade and lifestyle press the best and most known buyers and retailers used BBB as their information platform: amongst others Slips (Munich), Off & Co. (Munich), Feldenkirchen (Hamburg), Spoiled (Amsterdam), Apropos (Cologne), Undefeated (Los Angeles), Beams (Tokyo), Penelope (Breschia), Bon MarchÈ (Paris), Colette (Paris), LíEclaireur (Paris), Harvey Nichols (London), Selfridges (London), Harrods (London), Wood Wood (Kopenhagen), Norse (Kopenhagen), Concrete (London), Hide Out (London) have been registered at BBB. In total, some 42 000 visitors were on hand for BBB!

Bread and Butter also announced a new venue for the south of Europe: Barcelona. According to Karl Heinz of Bread and Butter, The concept upon which BREAD & BUTTER BARCELONA is based has been well received throughout the industry. A number of brands currently represented in the southern European region or eager to capture this market have already announced their decision to take part. The concept behind BREAD & BUTTER BERLIN will remain unchanged; it has established itself as a prominent event for the northern and eastern European region. From a strategic perspective, this means that exhibitors will be in a position to cover the entire European market with two key events.

The concept of presenting selected brands from the high-end segment of contemporary fashion culture within the framework of a fantastic event that embraces an entire city has been further enhanced ...

Fashionsnoops’ view: Reviewing the BBB show is a tall order because at no other venue will you find such a high level of quality, design and inspired marketing as here. Every corner of the show floor from the Tattoo parlor to the booths, stands and mannequins right down to the lounges for relaxation are an exercise in design, art and style. Nothing is left to chance, nothing is left undone. Take the time to open up the pictures in each section, and be sure to come back to this report often because many of the trends seen here are nascent and sure to migrate stateside over the next year.

Take a look at the Bread & Butter Berlin show floor!

TREND SPOTTING & PARTY AT CAFE MOSKAU

Watching people at the BBB show or at one of the many venues around the show, you get a sense of how individualistic, eccentric, artistic and confident this crowd really is. There were very few commonalities to be found. Only denim as a preferred bottom can be pointed to as a rule. The rest is up for grabs. Highly detailed blazers, screened jackets, biker jackets, mixed media minis, hints of neon, comic book heroes, patches and preppy argyles were all seen above the waist. For denim, bleaches, distressed, pinned, patched, two tone, ripped, repaired and colored variations were seen.

Details
+

The main theme here is that these details help to make the garments look hand crafted, personal and different. Rib cuffs, screens, heat transfers, extended tacking in contrast colors, appliquéd numbers and vintage pieces were all seen.

Party at Cafe Moskau

This ultra hip locale was again host to the BBB party. Jumbo ottomans, a jumbo screen and retro 70’s lighting set the mood.

FASHIONSHOW & HAPPENINGS

The finer points of fashion got plenty of attention here on the show floor. This too is something we don’t see nearly enough of at local shows. The accessories shown here range from vintage pins to kitschy bags, rubber boots and nifty sneakers and deep winter quilted nylon boots! Take note of the printed sneakers, Oilily mixed media bag and the highly styled boots at Barcelo 72.

G-Star

Freesoul and G-Star were among the presenters at BBB. Freesoul had both a live booth display as well as this fluid ‘crowd’ style show that featured relaxed and diverse people wearing the brand just standing around. G-Star’s show was on the runway and featured their signature denim and sportswear.
