Fall 2005 Color Report From Runway

Welcome to our newest report in the kids area! You expressed a need for earlier reporting and here it is; color straight from the kids runway shows, ready to inspire you for fall 2005!

We took a close look at the leading themes and trends from the Pitti Bimbo, Paris Kids Fashion and Brussels Kids Fashion shows and synthesized those looks into color stories. There are several exciting palettes to work with ranging from Homespun brights to Icy delights and fall favorites with a twist.

Take a closer look at Early View Color for fall 2005!

Icy Neutrals
For little girls the pastels of the season get an icy air. Lavenders are key as are antique pinks and porcelain blues. Think tonal mixes here and definitely seek out soft finish fabrics like brushed and napped jerseys and fleeces, pannes, chenilles, corduroys and velvets. Drop in tulle and floral patterns and you have the Ice Princess theme covered!

Brights
The fall 2005 season is going to be very bright! The Homespun and Mixmaster themes are the place to start using these brights while athletic looks, fun artsy florals and screens for all themes get a much needed punch from this range. Newcomers to the scene are light magenta, tangerine, celery and super lemon yellow. Red is dropped in for depth and to give the whole range an anchor to brights. Try working tonally or go for offbeat mixes of red, celery and pale magenta!

Berry Wine
Just the range to express the Antique and Rosettes that we are seeing as so important for the coming fall! This tonal palette builds on the importance of berry and wine shades and links them with the important fuchsias and pale magentas. Try rich corduroys, brocades, paisleys and antique art and painterly patterns here.

Dusties
This is where you will satisfy your need for softness! These pastels are given a dusting that makes them softer to the eye and to the touch. Look to adding a certain whiteness by overprinting, brushing, laundering or garment dying your pieces. Sanding is important here as are soft all over prints, stripes and barely there plaids. Use this palette when thinking ‘Prima Bella’ ballerina!

City Beat
Edgy and fun but familiar enough to be considered core colors. Look to the clean navy, bricked red and pale olive for your bottoms. Steely gray is the great new base color; see the grayscale theme in our runway trend report for more on that! Creamy yellow adds lift and light to fall patterns while off white remains the key base top color.
