London Retail Buzz!
December 03, 2003

With the holidays now officially just around the corner, we are beginning to see sales of apparel pick up. Parents are in a rush to get mid winter necessities and holiday finery purchased before the pickings get too slim. In London, the leading retailers all seem to have concentrated their efforts on providing shoppers with fun, easily coordinated and cozy looks for the season. Plush, fur trims, corduroy and sweaters are topping the charts at all of these stores. Funny appliqués, stripes and layered looks are all key. Take a closer look at the best sellers from in and around London!

H&M
What is hot at H&M? Stripes! All forms of knit stripes on tees and sweaters have been blowing out. The perfect match up piece has been the short denim skirts that have also blown right out. The best color combos in the knits have been the soft pink and tan looks that have punches of warm reds for richness. Embroidered tops with a sense of humor have also been key according to the associate. Funny reindeer, bunnies with flowers, bears and, of course, Paddington Bear have been great sellers for gift giving, we are told. Floral embroideries themed to match the striped tops in color have also sold very well. Fur trimmed outerwear and red corduroy top off the best selling looks here!

Mothercare
Mothercare's best sellers have a slightly different feel about them. The leading looks here are soft and feminine with flared, fluffy, floral and fancy finishes to them. Cotton blouses have been very good sellers and have been merchandised with cotton cardigans in floral and solid looks. The floral cardigan and the chenille solid have done best. Also important here are stripes according to the associate. Striped knit tops have been priced low and have sold as tie ins to other exciting merchandise while striped sweaters have sold right out on their own. Both the patchwork and the embroidered jumpers have done well while the Puppy fleece set has been a great item for them. According to the associate, the "non gender" appeal is what makes this look sell so well. People buy it for gifts and they never go wrong with the color! Lastly, the best selling outerwear here has been the quilted vest (seen in an updated shape and shine finish here), the heavy pea coat and the fur trimmed and embroidered jacket.

Next
At Next, a sense of humor makes for a best selling early holiday item. The funny angel shirt has sold very briskly for gift giving according to the associate here. Also key have been these two knit cardigans. The solid version is lined in jersey for added cuddle and features ultra cool toggle buttons. The striped version that has also sold exceedingly well features a zip front and a lined hoodie.

Zara
Let's talk about pink. Pink sells. In fact, the stunning pink sherpa trimmed jacket has blown out of the store much, much quicker than its beige counterpart according to the associate. While still on the subject of pink, this pink embroidered jumper has proven to be irresistible and has sold right out. Got Pink?
