Target general overview
Target in the
News
Target Corporation August
Sales From Continuing Operations Up 12.2 Percent
Target Corporation reported that its
net retail sales from continuing operations (principally
Target Stores) for the four weeks ended August 27, 2005
increased 12.2 percent to $3.862 billion from $3.442 billion
for the four-week period ended August 28, 2004. On this
same basis, comparable-store sales increased 6.3 percent
from fiscal August 2004.
The sales plan for the month was a comparable-store
increase in the range of 4 to 6 percent.
The merchandise with the strongest comparable
store sales growth during the month included women’s
apparel, household, personal and baby, perishables/consumables
and electronics. The categories with the weakest performance
for the month were home, entertainment and garden, home
improvement and auto.
Target’s strongest markets during
August were in the west and the south.
Toddler and infant department overview
As with the mini boys, we found this
department to be very full. But the perimeter yielded those
great groupings by Cherokee, Genuine and Circo. A coordinate
grouping of Hanna Barberra presents ‘Pebbles’gear
by Isaac Morris was very new for the department. Embroidered
denim and corduroy, Halloween impulse buy dress up wear
and wonderful sweaters were the best looks here.
What we would
like to see more of
Again, with so much stuff, it is hard
to find a true need for anything! But we always have a
wish! We would love to see a puffy vest with sherpa trim
and a few sweaters and tops with touches of glam (little
screens with beads, sequins or glitter).
