This time, we split our research team up and sent half to Walmart and the other half to a Super Walmart center.
The results were remarkably different. While the regular Walmart store continued to offer Metro 7 and had tons of junior merchandise, the Super store had whittled down almost all of the fashion selection to the most basic of looks and brands. The same was true in all departments except for young mens where the Super store outshone the regular Walmart with much more in the way of NoBo screened tees and some more fun Spring Break type merch. All of the departments in the Super store had a standing wall of tees (just like Target has had for over 18 months). This island of cubbies was the home for licensed and non licensed tees for all and the selections were well maintained, hip and on trend. The regular Walmart store as well as the Super store both carried tons of George merch and all of it looked very good with quality workmanship throughout. George ( the same tag that has kept ASDA UK ahead of the curve prior to Walmart's take over) is turning out to be the catalyst brand for Walmart where it is also proving to be the turn around tag of the store. New sets such as layered tops in girls and in boys are proving to be value and style drivers to keep your eyes on. Let's see how the new (less fashion focused but more value minded) Walmart fares this coming year! |
