Kids' Fashion Brussels

January 25-27, 2004

The Kid’s Fashion Brussels show wrapped up just last week and from here it looks like fall will be rich, active and fun for both boys and girls. This report looks at the show as a whole and gives you a global idea of what was seen both at the runway portion and in the booths. Check back often over the next few weeks as we will begin to look at trend direction, colors and key bodies from all of the fall 2004-2005 kids shows.

Take a closer look at some of the highlights from Kids' Fashion Brussles:

Runway Show
The dominant theme here at Brussels can be summed up with this word: Layers. The concept of layering is evident here on every level. Prints are layered one over the other to create visual interest. Textures and fabrics are layered to create new effects and themes are layered to create an individual and new trend direction. We see seemingly clean screens with spray effects over top to give a punk edge. Many lines featured classic fabrications with distressed finishes and over effects that again suggested something far more rugged than classical. Appliques and embellishments as well as under layers in sharp contrast both in weight and in texture further propelled the ‘layered’ look. Cargo and almost militaristic elements are paired with punkish tartans and embellished tees to redefine what we see as punk or military. The end result across the board is far less of a hodge podge than it sounds. Whenever seemingly foreign objects are put side by side, there is a harmony on another level that is maintained in order to make the whole concept look great and fresh.
