Kids' Fashion Paris (Boys and Girls)

January 21-22, 2004

The Paris Kid's Fashion show closed just a few weeks ago and we can say that the fall 2004-2005 season is in full swing! We have zeroed in on key designers from the runway presentations. Again, this is a global overview so you will want to stay tuned for the trend, color and key body analysis reports that will be following in the next few weeks.

In Paris the leading theme was much like what we saw in Brussels. The concept of juxtaposing seemingly unrelated elements on every level from screen to finished garment prevailed. We also noted that familiar themes such as cargo and bohemic looks were being redefined in new fabrications with seemingly sophisticated finishes and treatments. For example, we noted many cargo pants cut in distressed corduroy for both girls and boys. Another strong look revolves around the concept of texture. Sweaters were marled and knitted in highly defined patterns both in brights and in more subtle autumn hues. Wools, tweeds, plaids and even solid bottom weights were heathered, worn looking or finished with an added tactile aspect. Layers were key both on single garment and as a merchandising avenue. Skirts often featured soft under layers, tops had double sleeves and the whole look was then layered over with vests and interesting coats. Overall the trends were more mature with plenty of adult influences seen, but that said, they were applied with the European flair that we know and love.

Take a closer look at the key designers from the runway and from the show floor.

Ba-Beure / Farfelu
For girls the gray and pink theme is important. Using a flannel for the gray is a great mid winter update. For boys teal looks fresh in fleece with sleeve pockets.

Bellerose
Splashes of jewel bright colors look great up against subtle marl sweaters and cozy outerwear.

C.K.S.
Denim and corduroy is restyled in cargo and workwear themes. Fleece jackets are trimmed in striped banding for a touch of newness and the whole line gets a worn and washed over finish for maximum comfort.

Clayeux
Deliciously bright combos for textured knits are on the runway here. Dropping a pastel green or powder blue into a bright background gives these combos a slight 'vieillot' or retro appeal.

Escada
Bright is right!

Gymp
Updated and junior based styling is on deck here. We love the corduroy cargo pants with the pockets at the hem for boys and the muted color scheme for girls. Full front face screens continue to be important.

IL baule DI Elianne
Formal dresses look fresh in rich jewel shades against inky darks.

Lacroix
Lacroix has several color stories going on but we love the pink, silver and white the best. Lace is used as a subtext to the screen and as a garment trim both above and below the waist.
