'Pitti Immagine Bimbo'

June 27-29, 2003 - Florence, Fortezza
da Basso
|
The
international preview of the Spring / Summer 2004 collections
of clothing and accessories for children and youngsters
from 0 to 18 was a true hit. Along with the treasure
trove of traditional European brands there were several
home grown names on the floor and on the runway; Everlast
and Guess were seen rubbing elbows with Laura Biagiotti
and Miss Blumarine! There were plenty of fresh trends
both at the runway show and on the floor of the exhibit.
Easy Rider denim stylings, popish florals and well oiled
work wear were the themes on everyone's lips. Take a
closer look as we analyze the show both from a trend
and color stand point and from a brand perspective.
|
|
Take a closer look at some of the
highlights from Pitti Immagine Bimbo:
|
| Easy
Rider |
| The original
movie inspired an entire generation to hit the road and
the freedom of it all is now inspiring a new generation.
The well worn denim jeaner, the hippie tee, the leather
motorcycle jacket and the all American references all
come together here. Look for innovative washes and wear
patterns on denim, pieced knits and placed screens on
tees and layers that are busy and retro in feel. |

| Indiana
Jones |
| Another cinematic event
that defined an era in fashion some 15 years ago returns
to the market in a new fresh form. The adventure begins
with well appointed cargo shorts, vests, jackets and shirts.
Pockets and contrast piecing highlight the details. Rugged
fabrications that are distressed only to a point are the
vehicle here. Rip stop, canvas and linen cotton blends
in softened desert colors are the cornerstone. |

| Workwear |
| A gritty
theme that mixes both retro work fashions with the core
values of the mechanic's bay, the pit crew and the heavy
hitting construction crew. Styles are roomy and functional
with no effort made to hide the worked in feel, oiled,
stained, distressed effects are integral. Coveralls inspire
as do good old fashioned uniforms. References to heavy
industry abound in logos, patches and trims. Denim, twills,
textured knits and true workwear shirtings are best. |

Sports |
| Sticking
to the inspiration that is his name, Iceberg goes ahead
and has fun with an almost all white collection for boys
and girls. The shapes and feel are fun with skater skirts,
lofty knit bombers and textures for girls and 3 dimensional
knits, fisherman cardigans and Sasquatch boots for boys. |

| Girls Trends |
| Blanc
de Blanc |
| A natural
extension of the romance and black and white trends is
the white on white theme. As much as white is a special
occasion color, it is now being widely sought after just
for the fun of it. Here we see delicate layers, intricate
mixed media effects and natural fabrications coming together
in a more relaxed way. Lace and crochet mingle with linen
blends, gauzy cottons, sheer knits and netting. |

|
| Black
and White |
| Dots and
stripes come together in a very pure and fun retrospective
on 50's fashions that is oh so sassy. The full skirt,
the cardigan and the sleeveless shirt are quintessential
pieces that need to be capitalized on. The play suit,
notched capri and 3/4 length sleeved tee will all become
part of the dialogue. Clean trims such as ribbons and
bows are used to delineate and define the cuts. Buttons
and simple imagery are focal points. Look for stretch
wovens and knits that hold the shape and don't forget
poplins, pique and ottoman knits. |

| Pop
Florals |
| The bold
florals are back! Taking over from where the Pucci craze
began, these new simple but bright florals are the new
standard in fashion botany! The poppy, daisy and Hibiscus
are shown jumbo sized and in full color against a simple
white background. Black is used for pop value. Here the
silhouettes are simplified to let the prints communicate
effectively. Look for pique wovens, printed poplins, easy
lycra knits and a touch of netting. |

| Romance |
| The finer
side of floral motifs is here with a nod to the Liberty
florals in all of their splendor. Tiny yet detailed florals
are the focal point of the trend that can be both casual
and dressy at once. For the casual expression look to
mixing florals with denim in a handcrafted and appliqued
way. For a more formal expression, mix florals with shine
effect solids, satins and open work knits. The casual
side does borrow from the simple stylings of the 50's
and the 70's at the same time with capris, generous skirts,
knotted blouses and appliqued knit tops with a bit of
a hippie feel. The dressier side borrows from the lingerie
inspired junior fashions of this past season with lace
trimmed tanks, tees and shorts paired with crochet sweaters
and floral shifts. |

| Glam
military |
| A new twist
on what has come to be the trend of the new millennium!
The heavy duty militia has been updated with touches of
David Bowie circa 1976; metallic knits, meshes and screens
are paired with satins and shine finish fabrications cut
into modified cargo looks. Bombers are abbreviated, cargo
pants are tied, cropped and closer to the body and the
knit top is a veritable composition of varying forces. |

| Vintage
Sport |
| The quasi
sport mind set of the 70's is back! Remember when active
wear was really just for playing in? Well, that time has
come again. Easy rompers, short sets and knit pant sets
are all back in the mix. Tennis and sport club wear continue
to inspire and retro infused visuals abound. Textured
knits such as ottomans and piques are new again as is
French terry. Contrast trims such as piping, taping, zips
and very visible buttons add to the kitsch! |

| Handmade
Heaven |
| A perfect
tandem theme to the Romance and Blanc de Blanc looks of
the season! Here the crafts and stitchery are highlighted
in crochet sweaters, patched tops and bottoms and marvelous
mixed media items. Open knits are used with wovens to
create girly dresses and skirts as well as to make halter
tops and blouses feel like they are from a bygone era.
Along with crochet, lace and open knits look for gauzy
wovens, linen and cotton blends and delicate prints with
mesh overlays as well as printed and solid satins with
a slightly crinkled hand. |

Here at Miss both the safari and the kitsch of the
80's meet in the middle. The zebra print is toned down
with a pink and pale khaki coloring and some very now
styling while the retro print 80's gear is cut into
playful dresses and rompers for maximum effect.
