For this report we took a close look at the boys runways and trade shows in order to give you a birds eye view of the colors stories in the news.

For the older boys, we did add in a few colors from menswear in order to tell the whole story from the point of view of what we felt would be coming into the mix for boys. Take a look at the leading color stories for Spring 2009!

New Rave
The New Rave trend and color story is by far the most forward but at the same time, one of the most applicable stories as well. The mid tone greens are buffered by red, grey and royal and then popped by the citrus shades. Black and white serve as the clean contrasts and help to drive the screens and the all over prints of this look.

Deck Mate
Joining the usual suspects of navy and white is tomato red, powder blue and a wonderful series of grays from dust to concrete. Because grays are so important elsewhere, they need to be added into this equation too! They look great when mixed in with the red as well as all of the blues. Use plenty of white for that crisp edge!

Gone Fishing
Neutrals, warm reds and a handful of earth tones are paired with a grass green for a fresh pop. Soft cream and black are your basics here. Be sure to use this palette for outdoorsy looks that have a utilitarian feel and block the colors and contrast the details wherever possible.

Grass Hopper
When we said the whole green scene was going to be important, we meant it! Designers opted for a head to toe green story and we support that notion 100%! Go for leafy, grassy and rich bio-greens. Layer on a soft gray or tan and then pop with clean white for a palette that can be used against sporty, nature or even preppy themes.

Little Rugger
We love this offbeat athletic palette because it takes what we know and mixes things up a bit. Sure there’s grey, red, black and white but there is a fresh navy, an aubergine and that all –important grass green too. This means that you can create incredible stripes that are great for all ages of boys and you can color block with a new a renewed zest!

Route 66
The car theme of the season brings with it a wonderful handful of brights such as turquoise, purple, lime and red and pairs them with the obvious white and black. But! There is also a navy and charcoal angle which takes this theme closer to the street level and infuses the trend with a more upbeat and sophisticated air. Try charcoal or navy as your starting point and layer on the brights for best results!

Skate
We can’t ignore this theme which brings together the skate look with the bright colors and wild art of the hip-hop trend that has been with us for some time. Warm brights are offset by black, cool gray and white. The Concord Grape and the true royal will go far here though you will want to include the yellow and even the pink in your screen art.
