For this report we took a close look at the girl’s runways and trade shows in order to give you an overview of the leading color stories we saw there.

Now, for the older girls we did bring in an occasional pop color from juniors because, after all, we want to always take you a step further in your thinking! Take a closer look at the best color stories for Spring 2009!

Bubble Gum
Yummy mid brights are in store for Spring 2009! Watch out for that melon oranges and the splashy turquoise and jade shades as they will be your volume colors. Pinks always work for the younger set and greens should be the backdrop for any story you are thinking of for spring!

Precious Doll
This soft and ballet inspired story is just the thing for spring. Again you will see that green plays an important role with pinks and blue caste shades rounding out the story. Shine is a must here so be sure to use this palette in glazed prints, eyelet, soft knits and wonderful florals.

Now for something a bit offbeat! Take your favorite mid brights, dust them over just a bit for a vintage feel and then pair them with some of the season’s most promising athletic brights such as tomato, purple and royal and you have this winning look! Aim for sporty looks with tons of knits. be sure to add striped trims, eye popping screens and high visibility details to make the most

Tea Biscuits
This sophisticated palette brings together a dusty range of soft pastels and paris them against some very forward thinking neutrals for a ‘just like my super hip mom’ type of look. You’ll want to mix the soft candy shades with plenty of white and then layer on the neutrals for the best effect. This palette is great for transition into spring or for spring holidays though it should remain a classic for long after that too!

Oceanside Retro
A simple nautical story that has all the ingredients for success! Tons of blues from cornflower to perri and navy are arranged against a backdrop of white and grey mix. You can add shine to this story to take it to a clubbier vibe or you can go sporty with terry cloth patterns, knit stripes and denim mixers. Add silver for screens as needed and be sure to heap on the white here!

Worldly Delights
This bright and rich palette can be used against your best summer themes! Think Turkish and Indian motifs and then layer in these fresh and bright colors to give the whole thing a fresh glow. Use in stripes, paisleys and florals and then bring on the traditional trims from beehive stitch to wood buttons and beaded dangles. You can even take an earthy spin to the palette by sticking to the greens and neutrals but even then, you’ll want to bring in some pop!
