Pitti Bimbo is the premiere show for kids and this past July some of the hottest brands took to the runway in Italy. Alongside European favorites such as Miss Blumarine and Miss Grant we saw Barbie take on some new edge with incredible screens and art.

The neat thing about these screens is that Barbie takes on such innocuous icons such as butterflies, flowers and the doll and whips them into fabulous art with simplicity, great colors and texture. Sequins and glitter play a big part as do chunky renderings and super sized visuals. Every piece is screened in one way or another from jeans to tees and summer dresses. The central themes here include Urban Glitter, Tropical, Glitter princess Barbie, ethnic Butterfly and Rocker Barbie. In some cases the doll is not even a remote part of the art and in other cases she is central to the look. The art here is cleaner and more subdued but no less fabulous! We love how MB included wood beads with a Zebra for added dimension and how just a few rhinestones add interest to a simple front hit.
 
Hawaii was the destination of choice for Miss Grant and if you look closely at each screen you will see what makes the theme pop here. Each hit features a generous amount of 3-D fun! Grass skirts, jumbo sequins, clusters of hanging beads and heavy embroidery are key. For a bit of Bling, MG used foil with 3-D elements to create ethnic and bejeweled looks. Finally, appliques and embroideries come to life with tactile as well as visual depth. Be sure to take a close look at each piece!
