“Sailor Chic – Fashion’s Love Affair with the Sea” is on view at London’s National Wartime Museum. We couldn’t have put it better as nautical is a recurring theme spanning sex and age, from Coco Chanel’s South of France holidays to Jean Paul Gaultier’s homosexual take.

The exhibit goes beyond navy blue and white and delves into “subversion and rebellion” which examines cultural aspects of the aesthetic. Influences and inspiration however are most interesting, as seaside themes tend to draw upon similar themes but always add additional twists. As one would imagine, the peacoat is one of the most important pieces of the exhibit. It is also important to note that for females, this sort of sailor reference is a classic, meanwhile for men its not always the case. Take a peek to discover the treasures of the sea!
