Bigger, better, and more MAGIC! Held August 30th to September 2nd at the Las Vegas Convention Center, over 3,300 exhibiting companies welcomed retailers to the largest and most comprehensive apparel and accessory showcase in the world, MAGIC Marketplace. It featured 1,200 new exhibitors, more space, and finally combined WWDMAGIC under one roof with the rest of the MAGIC shows. Pre-registration was also up 7% from February 2004’s 90,000 total attendees.  Merchandise on hand was in full gear for Spring 2005, with great runway shows showcasing many of the season’s key trends.

It’s all about adventure! Themes here take a trip on the wild side with safari leading the way revitalizing those military and cargo looks. Exotic surf and board shorts are an important discussion as well as the ever-important sports theme. Superheroes and licensed cartoons are full of attitude as screens on tees. Colors are brighter and wearable in layered looks. Take a look at the trend roundup below!
This thematic trend is bringing a wave of color and is giving cargo looks one more go around. Orange is the key shade with tans, denims and ‘dessert’ colored shirt stripes in the mix. Camouflage is still an issue with gray and gray/ olive shades on deck.

From car racing to baseball and from the street to the ramp, all sorts of inspiration is coming at the boy’s market. Color blocks are bolder and brighter with piped in contrasts a must. The baseball jersey is on the horizon in no uncertain terms again!

The surf industry is looking very mature with grown up cuts and color combinations on deck. Orange and aviator blue add to the over all retro feel seen in this segment.

Action and adventure remain high on the boy’s agenda. The theme is used in trims, screens, cuts and color combinations throughout this market segment!

The concept of layering is still central in both the boy’s and the young men’s markets. The shirts are getting some fresh styling points like western yokes, pointed pockets and flaps as well as snap closures. Colors are getting brighter here in what used to be the strong hold of cargo shades.
