Expofil gives us the first look into yarns and fibers for Spring 2010 development, while confirming dominant trends for Fall 09/10. In the words of the organizers, the Spring/Summer 2010 season draws on a number of key points:

Lightness & Refinement
: Cellulosic or polynosic yarns are combined with the nobility of silks and wools. Lightness becomes opaque because of round and smooth yarns blended with cellulosic or synthetic fibers.

Transparencies & Delicacy
: Transparency becomes vaporous and matte with ultra fine combed cotton, merino wool, matte viscose and flat poly. It takes on gleaming aspects and plays off of shine with viscose or poly filaments in cellophane reflections and with glazed effects. It looks like tracing-paper with dry hand and horsehair aspects.

Dryness & Springiness: Natural fibers express their nature by remaining dry and fresh to the touch. Irregularities of linen, hemp and ramie grow refined with polynosic or artificial blends for a balance between roughness and springiness. Fine crepes lend a springy drape. Matteness rises with cabled cottons, wool blends, matte viscose or ultra-matte synthetics. Compact yarns give stretch and comfort.

Generous and Subtle Fantasy: Blurries made of chines or jaspe play on color and make use of random fiber and print irregularities. Mossy fabrics like boucle and gimp yarns play on extremes. Generous yarn counts are exacerbated in multi-ply roundness with low twist, in supple viscose or bamboo cables.

Performance: Naturals are combined with synthetic for thermal, easy-care and bacteriostatic properties. Some properties or treatments are integrated with cellulosic or polymer mass for anti-UV or anti-bacterial yarns.

Environmentally Respectful: Yarns and fibers with anallergic, anti-fungal and biodegradable properties. Recycling lends to a second life to hosiery surplus to agricultural surplus and consumer refuse for an environment that is in step with the future and sustainable development. New developments include coarse count yarns, or yarns combined with polymers of vegetal origin and cellulosic fibers.

Soft wools for a cozy and downy hand blend with alpaca or mohair. A crepey or fluid lightness for wools and fine blends. A fantasy illustrated by boucle yarns with elaborated and complex blends of noble and synthetic materials. Woolens ornamented by a filament shine for metallic aspects. Irregular yarns, both in their coloration and in their texture, with generous tweeds, slubs, knots and elaborated twists.
