Ladies prints and patterns for Spring 10 will be an exciting mix of just about everything. Abstract art which has been around for a few seasons continues to be very strong with a more modern art look defined by monochromatic palettes, large brush strokes and Jackson Polack-esque drips and splatters most notably from Barbara Bui. Dots made a very strong showing and took the form of large graphic engineered dots, more biomorphic spots as well as micro dots. Tropical trends came in the form of traditional palm prints in edgy color combos from Gucci and a slew of indigenous reference from Africa and Greece. Skin prints, including leopard and zebra seem to be a main stay for the foreseeable future while snake and reptile prints dominated the Prada show and looked most updated when done in a digital effect. Florals which dominate most Spring print assortments will do just that for Spring 10, but instead of one big print movement we see three that stand strongly on their own. Romantic mid-scale spaced florals are extremely feminine and are pitched on light grounds with either vintage tonal motifs or mid-tone bright pops of floral clusters. Ditsy prints which will dominate the junior and denim friendly markets get revamped when shown on black grounds and lastly watercolor florals are the most contemporary and look most updated in Monet inspired scenes best exemplified by Erdem.
