MOOD

By definition, raves are secret parties that take place in undisclosed locations like abandoned warehouses. Right now the rave scene is making a big comeback and shows no sign of stopping. Hipsters have taken on this trend because of the need to do something new and different  - it’s Indie rock fast-forwarded to the electro 90s. Raves are about everything techno, from music and art to crazy LED light productions. We’re seeing major emphasis on lighting from the cult festival Burning Man, where attendees literally light up themselves with everything from “Glo-Fur” jackets, glow sticks and light-up goggles to stand out in the night and heighten sensory experiences. Global art instillations and restaurants are also taking a cue from this trend and fusing interior design with all things fluorescent – starting with lighting and in some cases furniture. Candy Ravers (the kids that go to raves) push the point with brightly colored necklaces, stickers and candy. The Klaxons are the band most plugged in to this genre.

INFLUENCE

Cassette Playa is the best example of New Rave in fashion now. They’re all about hacking reality and creating hallucinogenic graphics with an infusion of florescent greens, electric blue and purple. It’s like a laser light show on tees. They’re currently selling to Seven New York and Dover St Market in London. PEGLEG NYC and Claw Money are other labels leading the way with a bit of an urban/graffiti twist. Y-3 is another to take New Rave on. This trend is a perfect fit for teens and hipster girls alike and athletic and urban sectors. Your next move should be to take the current 80s influx merchandise and plug in more neon florescent or pastel colors. Nylon fabrics also make a comeback. This is also a big place for accessories to live – involving bold color stories and chunky plastic accessories.
