"Superheroes are a metaphor for fashion because they share an obsession with the body, its identity and transformation," said Andrew Bolton of the MET.

The new exhibit at New York's Costume Institute at the MET is entitled "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" and brings forth fantastical creatures behind comic books, films and the fashion designers inspired by them. The show is divided into eight metaphoric "bodies" in which fashion and superheroes collide. The show wonderfully explains the back story of comic strip heroes and heroines, who often tell stories reflective of current social and political events. Of course fashion by nature reflects the times, which makes it all the more interesting to see byproducts of comic book fantasy and fashion side-by-side. An absolute must-see! On view until September 1, 2008.
